The opening of temporary exhibition titled ‘The Armenian Genocide and the Scandinavian response’ took place on November 6 in the Humanitarian Research Library part of the Copenhagen Royal Library. It was organized by the RA Embassy in Denmark and the Royal Library of Denmark in cooperation with the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute.

As the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs, a number of accredited ambassadors and diplomats from different countries, people involved in politics, science, cultural circles, journalists, religious people, students of the Copenhagen University and representatives of the Armenian community were present at the opening of the exhibition.

14 wallpapers represented at the exhibition represent the reaction of the Scandinavian missioners, diplomats, political and public figures, journalists, charitable organizations, doctors and others to the politics of mass extermination of Armenians carried out by the Ottoman Empire before and after the Armenian Genocide.

The Head of the Humanitarian Research Library part of the Copenhagen Royal Library Hans Christian Mikelsen made a speech. Afterwards the Head of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Hayk Demoyan made a speech by the topic «The Scandinavian direction of the European memory of the Armenian Genocide».

The Head of the Gulling historical museum Mogens Hoymark presented in his short speech the life and activities of a Danish armenophile Karen Yeppe. The RA ambassador to Denmark Hrachya Aghajanyan noted that many citizens of Scandinavian countries were actively showing their support for the Armenian nation after the disaster and provided them refuge and food, helped them survive.

The Ambassador particularly highlighted: «The commitment of these people cannot be evaluated. It is hard to express by words the physical and spiritual pain that the Scandinavian armenophiles suffered day after day, witnessing the extermination of the whole nation». At the end of the speech he expressed his gratitude to all participants and especially to the Royal Library of Denmark, as well as to the RA NAS Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute headed by Hayk Demoyan.

The exhibition will last until December 15.
