through our activities we strive to
maintain the memory and legacy of the
Armenian Genocide alive.

The Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Foundation manages the Museum-Institute, founded in 1995, the Memorial dedicated to the victims of 1915 Armenian Genocide, raised in 1967, and a surrounding 100 wooded hectares of Tstitsernakaberd Memorial Park. The place has become a symbol of the Armenian Genocide collective memory.

The Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Foundation is dedicated to preserving the memory and legacy of the Armenian Genocide by honouring 1,5 million Armenians who have perished during the horrible events at the beginning of the 20th century. The Museum-Institute teaches universal lessons to combat hatred, discrimination, prejudice and apathy. It fulfils its missions through the permanent, temporary and on-line exhibitions, vigorous research in different topics related to the Armenian Genocide, enrichment, preservation, digitalization and interpretation of its collections, through educational programs and other initiatives that raise the awareness of the Armenian Genocide, promote the value of human rights and foster recognition and prevention of genocides.

Apart from being a foreign policy issue, recognition of the Armenian Genocide has a national security implication and is obviously linked to today’s Armenia’s security, self-determination and independence, as the state that has recognized the genocide will not dare to repeat it against the same victim group.

The memory of the Armenian Genocide unites all Armenians. The museum belongs to every and each Armenian, because it tells the story that is part of our identity. It helps Armenians to discover their identity by piecing together the broken mosaic of our past.

There are nearly 70 museums and exhibitions dedicated to Holocaust throughout the world. The Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute is quite unique both in its existence and mission for preserving, educating, researching and disseminating the truth about the Armenian Genocide. It plays a role of a bridge not only between the past, the present and the future, but also between the Armenians of the Republic of Armenia and Diaspora.

We owe a duty to generations to preserve the history of our kind and honour the memory of those who have perished due to mass and all-absorbing human greed and cruelty. Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute is providing Armenians with the history of the Armenian Genocide as part of their history and identity, while encouraging every foreign visitor to consider the Genocide’s universal dimensions and the necessity to fight that evil. By maintaining and disseminating the history of the Armenian genocide and preserving the voices of individual stories the Armenian Genocide Museum Institute continues to pave the way for a future without genocides.

Aspirations

Together with its everyday activities the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Foundation has launched several big projects and initiatives:

To develop a Database of the Victims and Survivors of the Armenian Genocide.

To develop an indexed Database of the Survivors’ Testimonies (Video and Audio).

To develop a Database of Memories of the Survivors of the Armenian Genocide.

To open a permanent gallery at the Museum-Institute of Jansem’s paintings.

To strengthen the educational component through special programs for teachers, students of different grades and Diaspora Armenians.

To develop a travelling exhibition on the Armenian Genocide.

To digitalize the archival collection of the Museum-Institute (photos, memories, diaries, albums, documents, etc.) for preservation and dissemination purposes.

To republish an English-language journal about the Armenian Genocide with a renowned publisher (Brill or other).

To create a new modern multi-language analytical website of the Museum-Institute with a view to change the existing one.

To refresh the technical base of the Museum-Institute (computers, scans, printers, projectors, etc.).

To enrich the library of the Museum-Institute with new publications, subscribe to international journals in the field of genocide studies and other relevant fields.

To translate books and other publications on the Armenian Genocide into foreign languages and vice versa.

To enlarge the academic staff of the Museum-Institute with new young and experienced researchers.

To organize trainings at the Museum-Institute for the researchers with the participation of Armenian and foreign established academicians in the field.

To provide financial assistance to the researchers of the Museum-Institute to participate at international conferences, seminars, summer-schools, trainings, etc. with a view to present their findings to the international community and to develop new skills.

To collect archival materials on the Armenian Genocide from different archives and libraries throughout the world to make the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute a centre for research for the Armenian Genocide.

To establish titular scholarships for foreign researchers and enable them to make research on the Armenian genocide.
