International command and staff exercise at the AGMI complex

11.10.2023

An international command and staff exercise, in which rescuers from 7 countries participated, was held at the AGMI within the framework of the programme titled "Comprehensive Earthquake Management in Vulnerable Areas of the South Caucasus through Effective Planning, Response and Joint Actions" on October 10.

According to the scenario used, the Armenian Genocide Museum had been affected by an earthquake and had to be evacuated and museum visitors receive first aid. Secondly, museum objects had to be rescued by the fire-rescue squad and museum employees.

Both parts of the scenario were carried out successfully with the participation of rescuers from different countries and AGMI staff.

Three sites were set aside in the Armenian Genocide Museum complex during the special exercise to receive museum objects: the first had a table set up to examine items "damaged" by the earthquake; the second was the receipt and sorting point and the third was the security and recovery area, where the objects rescued were checked.

It should be noted that only dummies of specially designated museum objects were used during the exercise. The objective of the exercise was to increase people's awareness and to ensure that risk management was adequate during natural disasters.
