On July 12, the closing ceremony of the 12th meeting of International Association of Genocide Scholars took place.
The AGMI Deputy Director Suren Manukyan delivered a solemn speech with interesting photos. He expressed gratitude to the presidency of the association - Daniel Feierstein and Donna-Lee Frize - for trusting the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute and giving the opportunity to organize such an important event.
He mentioned that the preparation and discussions were hot, sometimes even heated, but effective. There were a lot of applications, but the choice was strict. 130 scholars from 35 countries participated in this conference, having discussions and debates about genocide studies and adjacent fields and shaping directions for the future.
Some of the speeches of this conference will be published as articles in the official journal of the 12th meeting of IAGS and in the “Journal of Armenian Genocide Studies” published by the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute.
Alex Hinton, former president of the International Association of Genocide Scholars, also had a speech. During his presidency it was decided to hold the 12th meeting in Yerevan. He expressed his satisfaction for the work done and the results.
The AGMI Director and chairman of the local organizing committee Hayk Demoyan greeted the guests and thanked the AGMI staff. As a sign of gratitude he handed the golden medal of James Brays to Daniel Feierstein, Donna-Lee Frize, Peter Balakian, Andrew Woolford, Alex Hinton, Rafiki Ubaldon and Suren Manukyan for their contribution in organizing this conference.
After, a cancellation of postcards dedicated to the 12th Yerevan meeting of the International Association of Genocide Scholars and published by Haypost took place.
