“Challenges of Teaching the Armenian Genocide in the 21st Century” organized by the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Foundation will take place on April 20, at 09:30, in the conference hall of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute. About thirty specialists in the field of genocide studies and related fields from Armenia, the United States, the Russian Federation, Lebanon, Israel, Rwanda, Spain, the Republic of South Africa and Cambodia will take part in the conference.
The opening ceremony will be followed by the opening of a temporary exhibition entitled
“Tracing the Armenian Schools in the Ottoman Empire: An Enlighted Nation’s Certificates”, organized by the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Foundation (at 10:15), which is the first thematically and has a purpose, that is, to raise and present from a distance of more than a century the once fruitful activities of about 2000 Armenian schools in Western Armenia, Cilicia, in the Armenian-populated areas of the Ottoman Empire, which was interrupted by the Armenian Genocide. These institutions, despite the persecution and violence perpetrated by the Ottoman government, not only did not cease to exist, but also had great success for decades, making significant contributions to the empire's education, science, and cultural development.
The temporary bilingual (Armenian and English) exhibition consisting of sixteen title panels presents about thirty original graduation certificates, photographs, textbooks, school supplies, which were obtained from the archives, museums, libraries of various institutions in Armenia and the Diaspora and private collections, as well.
After the opening ceremony of the exhibition, the conference will continue at the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute.
The temporary exhibition and the conference were financed by the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport and the Science Committee.
We look forward to seeing you.
