On September 20, 2012, the State Commission on Coordination of the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide held its second session in the new building of Matenadaran. The session was conducted by the chairman of the commission President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan.
Before the discussion of the questions included in the agenda, President informed that after the first session the secretariat of the State Commission has taken some steps to set up regional commissions in different countries.
The participants of the meeting spoke about the existing and potential candidates of the Expert group attached to the State Commission. The proposals to expand the number of experts was submitted and adopted. According to the decision of the chairman of the State Commission the Homenetmen, AGBU Armenian Youth and Homenmen representatives were included into the Commission taking into account the importance of involvement of the Armenian youth into the events dedicated to 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The chairman of “Pyunik” Foundation and benefactor Gabriel Jambarjyan also became a member of the Commission.
Twenty-five members of the State Commission’s Expert Group were approved without excluding its further replenishment. Hayk Demoyan, the Secretary of the State Commission, suggested as a principle to include into the Expert Group nominates of Presidential Award for their activity in the recognition of the Armenian Genocide and every year expand this Group with new nominates. By this principle, Harutyun Marutyan, the winner of Presidential Award 2012, was proposed and accepted by the State Commission.
During the second session of the State Commission on Coordination of the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, Hayk Demoyan, the director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute and the Secretary of the State Commission presented the Secretariat’s annual report 2011-2012 which was accepted.
The representatives of the session had a large discussion concern the general strategy of the organizing events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, as well as conceptual approaches and directions of the Commissions activity.
The announcement of competition of a slogan and a logo of the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide was proposed and accepted during the second meeting.
Taking into account the importance of the public Awareness and coverage concern the organizing events of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and also to give necessary information to the Armenian and foreign audience through internet, the Secretariat of the State Commission presented the draft of the Commission’s official website. The Commission suggested having launch the website in seven languages. The Secretary of the State Commission informed the participants that the website will be launched on December1 2012.
The President of RA Serzh Sargsyan notified the members of the Commission that the renovation of Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex, the enlargement of the Armenian Genocide Museum, the works on organizing new exhibition, which have already begun, will be part of the overall organization of the commemorative events.
The State Commission decided to hold the next session on May, 2013, on the eve of the 95th anniversary of the establishment of the First Armenian Republic. It also decided that in case of necessity the Commission will invite an additional session during the same year.
